Catholic Education plays an essential role in the Church’s mission to live the Gospel message by welcoming and being inclusive of all.

We recognize and actively promote equity and excellence, and call all in our communities to fully embrace the living spirit of Christ.

The belief that each person is created in the image and likeness of God leads us to respect the dignity and value of all. Therefore, Catholic Education provides opportunities that enable each person to grow to “full stature in Christ” (Eph 4:13).

Inclusive practice reflects these beliefs and is integral to the ethos of a Catholic school. Inclusive practice is not restricted to a particular group of learners but refers to all in our school communities, inspired by the goal that quality, inclusive Catholic education will be accessible for all learners.

Catholic schools actively and systematically promote inclusion by:

  • identifying and removing barriers to inclusion in policies, structures, attitudes and daily routines

  • providing a curriculum that educates the whole person and responds to the needs of each individual

  • assisting all learners to continually learn and grow

  • fostering respect for life-long learning

  • recognizing and celebrating a broad range of achievements and efforts

  • offering a flexible, safe, engaging, and challenging learning environment

  • promoting a collaborative, supportive approach to meeting the needs of learners.

Once an enrolment application has been submitted, the school seeks to gather information to ensure the enrolment process is a positive and supportive experience. The principal, in consultation with parents and stakeholders, will identify specific needs and the reasonable adjustments required for the student to access the curriculum and the school environment without creating unjustifiable hardship for any party.

Catholic Education, Diocese of Rockhampton, employs Inclusive Education Consultants who work to support Principals, Learning Support Teachers, teachers and families in our primary and secondary schools to identify needs, plan effective classroom strategies, and develop access to the curriculum for all students.
