Catholic Education in the Diocese of Rockhampton has a proud tradition stretching back some 150 years and ours is a story of courage, sacrifice, struggle, vision, commitment and above all of faith and trust in God. We owe a great deal to those who have gone before us, priests, religious and parents and lay educators who worked, sometimes in difficult conditions and often against odds to provide quality Catholic education to successive generations.

I am sure we would all agree that Australia has an education system of the highest quality and the Catholic Church has made an outstanding contribution to the development of this education system.

Here in the Diocese of Rockhampton our Catholic schools strive not just to be different but to make a difference in the lives of the young people entrusted to our care. Catholic Education in the Diocese of Rockhampton extends beyond our Catholic schools to encompass the areas of Adult Education and Faith Formation, and Religious Instruction in State schools.

Mr Michael McCusker 

The Bishop delegates leadership, administration and management of Catholic Education and Faith Formation to the Diocesan Director of Catholic Education. This responsibility is exercised across three specific areas:

  • Catholic Schools and Colleges
  • Adult Faith Education and Formation
  • Religious Instruction in State Schools

According to Diocesan Guidelines approved by the Bishop, the Diocesan Director of Catholic Education appoints Diocesan Leaders with responsibility for these three ministries.

Mr Michael McCusker 

Michael McCusker commenced as Director of Catholic Education - Diocese of Rockhampton on 1 July 2024.

Michael is well known to many in Catholic Education having served as a teacher and principal in both the Diocese of Rockhampton and the Archdiocese of Brisbane. For the past 12 years, Michael has been a member of the Catholic Education Leadership Team in the Diocese of Rockhampton serving as Assistant Director: Schools - Northern Region.
