St Patrick’s Community Delivers Warmth Through Vinnies Blanket Drive
St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School in Emerald has once again demonstrated the power of community spirit, with its recent Vinnies Winter Blanket Drive proving a resounding success.
Over the past few weeks, students, families and staff united in a generous effort to support those doing it tough this winter, collectively donating an impressive number of blankets. The contributions will provide much-needed warmth and comfort to individuals and families experiencing homelessness and hardship during the colder months.
A highlight of the initiative was the involvement of the school’s Mini Vinnies representatives, who proudly delivered the donations on behalf of the school community. Their participation not only symbolised the collective effort behind the drive but also reflected a deep commitment to living out the values of service and compassion. Through their actions, these students exemplified Catholic Social Teaching by recognising the dignity of every person and standing in solidarity with those in need.
The blanket drive directly supports the St Vincent de Paul Society’s Winter Appeal, an important campaign that provides essential assistance to vulnerable members of the community. For St Patrick’s, the initiative is more than a charitable act; it is a continuation of its strong faith tradition and Presentation heritage.
Inspired by the legacy of Nano Nagle, founder of the Presentation Sisters, the school community sees such outreach as a living expression of its mission. Just as Nano Nagle once walked the streets of Cork carrying a lantern to bring hope and education to the marginalised, St Patrick’s students have brought that same spirit of care and light into their local community.
The drive also reflects the Gospel message at the heart of the school’s values. As written in Matthew 25:36, “For I was cold and you clothed me,” a reminder of the call to respond with practical love and compassion.
School leaders have expressed their sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed. The generosity shown throughout the appeal has made a tangible difference to those in need and stands as a testament to the strong sense of faith and community at St Patrick’s.
Through simple acts of kindness, the Emerald school community has once again shown that even small gestures can have a powerful impact.
