Holy Spirit College donate scrub hats

A band of staff members at Holy Spirit College Mackay took to their sewing machines recently to make brightly coloured scrub hats for local essential health and medical workers.

The college delivered 128 scrub caps to very appreciative staff at the Mackay Base Hospital for use in Intensive Care Units and various other wards.

HSC Campus Minister Carolyn D’Anna led the initiative after getting the idea from an Australian facebook group. Mrs D’anna recruited seven HSC staff members to sew the hats as well as others to help with donations of materials and funds to assist the project.

“We wanted to reach out and bring joy, love and laughter to our medical workers during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mrs D’Anna said.

Mrs D’Anna said the hats, which are reusable and reversible, were very well received by hospital staff.

“I’ve had some really positive feedback. They loved the hats and spent ages sorting through all the patterns and styles to find the one they wanted,” Mrs D’Anna said.

“I’m really pleased we were able to bring some joy to their day as a small measure of thanks from a very grateful community for the work our health professionals are doing,” Mrs D’Anna said.
