Catholic Education in the Diocese of Rockhampton invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for the position of Counsellor or Guidance Counsellor (role dependent on qualifications and experience).  This is a full time position to work across St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Mackay and St John's Catholic Primary School Walkerston.  Mackay is located in the middle of the Queensland coast and is renowned for its golden sand beaches and lush sub-tropical rainforests.

The Counsellor/Guidance Counsellor has a focus on fostering the development and mental health of all students.  This is achieved by applying counselling skills and engaging in individual and group interventions. The Counsellor/Guidance Counsellor is a certified professional who works in partnership with the schools by contributing specialised knowledge and skills in a collaborative manner.

Mandatory requirements: 
* Have a commitment to the ethos and values of Catholic Education.
* Have relevant tertiary qualifications – as applies to either a Counsellor or Guidance Counsellor.
* Have highly developed counselling skills.
* A current valid Blue Card under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 (WWC Act) and valid Suitability Notice is a requirement of the position.

Role Classifications:
School Counsellor (salary range $71,752 - $87,347) - The counsellor (without teacher qualifications) is a person appointed as such at the discretion of the employing authority and with formal qualifications as deemed acceptable by the employing authority and relevant to the duties of the position. Guidance Counsellor (salary range $105,180 – $111,914) - Registered Teacher with appropriate experience and demonstrated competency, and holds an appropriate degree with major studies in psychology from a recognised tertiary institution and completion of an approved post graduate counsellor training program of at least one year’s duration comprising academic course work, supervised practicum and a professional practices component with appropriate experience and demonstrated competency or other relevant qualifications which are acceptable to the employer.
