Graduate Secondary Teacher Scholarships

Applications close: Friday 31 October 2025

Employment Status: Permanent Full-Time

Teacher Salary Range: $84,077 - $123,101 (pending experience)

Interview Process:  Applications will be forwarded to the nominated Secondary Colleges on receipt of application. Applicants will be contacted as soon as possible following receipt of application by a representative of the nominated College.

*Mid-year graduates for 2026 and PTT applicants due to graduate in 2025 are also encouraged to apply. Mid-year graduate scholarships will be based on an individual timeline in line with your conferral date.

Catholic Education - Diocese of Rockhampton serves communities from Bundaberg in the south to Mackay in the north and west to Longreach at 17 locations across Central Queensland. We want you to be valued, inspired and welcomed into our college communities, joining our culture of care. 

Each year Catholic Education in the Diocese of Rockhampton appoints a number of graduate teachers to Catholic Kindergartens, Primary Schools and Colleges commencing at the start of each year. Our Graduate Scholarship Program offers financial incentive, early offer of appointment and employment certainty through permanency.

Scholarship Opportunity

  • FINANCIAL - $4500 ($500 initial payment to be paid in your first pay; $2000 at end of 1st and 2nd year)
  • EMPLOYMENT - Permanency on Appointment
  • PLAN YOUR LIFE - Receive an early offer of employment from April 2024 in line with College appointment processes
  • INDIVIDUALISED MENTORING - provided by your appointed College to set you up for success.

Scholarship Timeframes

Early offer of permanency and appointment for successful Scholarship applicants can occur from June 2025 in line with College appointment processes.

Initial payment of $500 will be paid in your first pay.

Scholarship Locations

Our graduate secondary teacher scholarships are available to all Colleges at Catholic Education - Diocese of Rockhampton: 

  • Holy Spirit College, Mackay
  • St Patrick's College, Mackay
  • Catherine McAuley College, Mackay
  • Marist College, Emerald
  • Emmaus College, North Rockhampton
  • The Cathedral College, Rockhampton
  • Shalom College, Bundaberg
  • Chanel College, Gladstone

All interested preservice teachers who meet the eligibility criteria are encourage to nominate their secondary college of their choice. 

Interviews for scholarships will be completed by the individual secondary colleges.

2026 Graduate Secondary Teacher Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be due to graduate and confer in 2025 and be able to obtain provisional QCT Registration prior to the commencement of the 2026 School Year. *Please note these timeframes do not apply to mid-year graduates in 2026 and are in line with conferral dates.  

Scholarship Conditions

  • Applications are welcome from anyone who would support the Catholic ethos and mission
  • Eligible to graduate and confer in 2025 or mid-year 2026
  • Evidence of successfully passing the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education 
  • Demonstrate professional knowledge, practice and engagement
  • Eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment
  • A desire to serve the community of Central Queensland

High achieving graduates will be identified on the basis of professional experience reports, application responses and referee statements.
