St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, North Mackay has proudly celebrated a significant milestone, marking 90 years of Catholic education, faith and community as part of this year's Catholic Education Week celebrations.

The festivities began on Thursday, 30 July, with a special birthday celebration for students, organised and led by the school's Year 6 student leaders. The afternoon featured a range of fun activities, games and birthday-themed events, creating a joyful atmosphere across the school.

The Year 6 leaders were praised for their enthusiasm, organisation and leadership, ensuring students of all ages felt included in the celebrations. Laughter, smiles and shared memories highlighted what was a memorable occasion for the entire school community.

The celebrations continued on Friday, 31 July, when students, staff, parents and invited guests gathered for a special prayer service honouring the school's 90-year history.

The "Celebrating 90 Years" Prayer Service provided an opportunity to give thanks for the generations of students, families, staff and parishioners who have contributed to the growth and success of St Joseph’s since its foundation.

A special highlight of the service was the presence of Mercy Sisters, Sr Kerry and Sr Marise, whose attendance acknowledged the lasting contribution of the Sisters of Mercy to Catholic education and to the life of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.

The service invited the school community to reflect on the values, traditions and faith that have shaped St Joseph’s for nine decades while looking ahead with confidence and hope for the future.

Following the service, parents and guests enjoyed a morning tea and had the opportunity to explore a specially curated 90-Year Memorabilia Display. The display showcased the rich history of the school, sparking conversations, memories and connections among past and present members of the St Joseph’s community.

The celebrations aligned with Catholic Education Week's 2025 theme, Shine Your Light. Inspire Others, recognising the many individuals who have contributed to the life of the school over the past 90 years.

School leaders said the anniversary was a chance to honour those whose faith, dedication and service have helped shape St Joseph’s into the vibrant and faith-filled community it is today.

As St Joseph’s celebrates this remarkable milestone, the school looks forward to continuing its mission of nurturing students in faith, learning and service for generations to come.
