The first Catholic school in the Diocese of Rockhampton was established in 1863. Since that time, and with ongoing contribution and support of clergy, religious orders, parishioners and the Catholic and wider communities, Catholic Education has evolved into the modern and vibrant learning communities we see in our Diocese today.
With a current enrolment of approximately 16,500 students and a staff of approximately 2500 in Kindergartens, Pre Prep Centres, 30 Primary Schools and 8 Secondary Colleges, Catholic Education serves communities from Bundaberg in the south to Mackay in the north and west to Longreach.
In 2013 we celebrated 150 years of Catholic schools in the Diocese and another exciting chapter in the long history of Catholic Education in the Diocese of Rockhampton will be carved with St Brigidís Catholic Primary School, Emerald opening in 2014 and a new Catholic Primary School to open in the Northern Beaches area of Mackay in 2015.
While each Catholic school and college maintains its own character, identity and proud traditions, there are a number of defining features that characterise Catholic schools in the Diocese of Rockhampton.
